Custom landscape design in Portland, Oregon

Grow Modern develops landscapes that blend beauty, utility and conservation—from the quiet sanctuary of a Japanese garden to the playfulness of California Modern.

Our Specialty

Grow Modern designs landscapes that are as unique as the people who inhabit them. We create outdoor spaces with year-round interest in mind, incorporating broadleaf evergreens, fruiting trees and shrubs, and fragrant plants that bloom precisely when you're most likely to be outside enjoying them. Although inspired by Midcentury and Japanese garden traditions, we draw from a wide range of design traditions, and most importantly from you, your lifestyle, your senses, and how you want to feel in your own backyard.

About Us

Grow Modern was born out of Morgan Sapp's love of Japanese gardens, mid-century design, and his life-long love of the natural world. He is a certified landscape designer and a member of Association of Northwest Landscape Designers (ANLD), Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), and currently working on master pruner certification.
When not gardening, you can find Morgan scouring the forest for mushrooms and walking creek beds hunting for agates.
